CAST, a Non-Governmental Organization based in Kilifi Town, has been operating in Kenya since 2007 in the coastal county of Kilifi with rural and coastal development projects that promote drought-resistant agricultural techniques and crops, proper food processing and preservation, Sustainable fisheries and climate change awareness.

The ECOS project (AID012590/01/5) – a 36-month AICS-funded project - aims to increase the resilience and food security of coastal communities and to strengthen institutional governance in the protection and management of natural resources by reducing socio-economic inequalities and vulnerability of individuals in fragile conditions through an inter-sectoral approach (livelihood, education and governance). The ECOS project is implemented thanks to the partnership with two Italian NGOs, Guardavanti ETS and Aleimar, the Directorate of Fisheries Kilifi County (DALF), and the collaboration of the Universities of Camerino and Bologna, in Italy.

Within the framework of the ECOS project, CAST is currently seeking to recruit one qualified and proactive Anthropologist able to support the activities of the first result of the project. ECOS proposes the development of sustainable tourism activities, which can protect marine resources, reduce the negative impact of overfishing, increase female participation, to give hope to young people and preserve the cultural heritage of coastal communities because ichtitourism is not only promotes fishing, but also local culture and customs. The aim is to supplement the incomes of fishermen and their families.
